SP1 helps glass industry to protect its products - and its profits

When it comes to protecting toughened glass products as they move down the supply chain, today’s manufacturer or merchant has access to a greater range of tools and technology than ever before. However it’s not just the major investments like glass carrying racks and float transportation vehicles that are worth considering. The small details can make a major difference too.

Take SP1. This specialist surface protection film from bpi.films, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of polythene films for a range of packaging applications, has been created specifically for the glass and glazing industry. It’s a tough, durable, self-adhesive film which - unlike adhesive tab separators - protects the whole surface of the glass from scratches, marks and other damage.

In addition, the adhesive qualities of SP1 are especially remarkable. By drawing on its considerable R&D capabilities and extensive manufacturing expertise, which spans more than three decades, bpi.films has been able to give the film just the right level of ‘tack’. It goes on easily, and certainly easier than adhesive tab separators, and will still firmly in place on even the most punishing of journeys.

However, once you are ready to remove it, SP1 comes off without any difficulty - and without leaving behind any residue or other tell tale evidence of its use. This is especially important on glass destined for double glazed units where any deposit left in the sealed unit can result in fogging.

Further benefits to the product include exceptional value for money and enhanced green credentials as SP1 has recently been downgauged. This means it offers the same performance but from a thinner film profile, ensuring users get more film – and the ability to protect more items - with every reel. It also mean less waste by volume is created after the film is removed.

SP1 is so effective that a number of key players in the industry use it alongside float transportation vehicles or wooden crates as an additional safeguard. Other manufacturers meanwhile actually use their application of SP1 as a selling point - highlighting to their own customers how it enhances product protection and product presentation.

The real measure of success for SP1 however is the fact that most of its users claim it delivers a marked reduction in damaged returns. Not only does that save on administration, inconvenience and costs for the merchant or manufacturer, but it also prevents damage of a more irreparable kind. Namely damage to your company’s reputation - and to customer relations.
