BPI continues green initiatives with coreless product

In today’s environmentally aware marketplace organisations of all shapes and sizes must not only operate efficiently and profitably, but also in a manner that’s sensitive to the environment. Conscious of its customers’ growing commitment to greener working practices bpi.films reviewed its existing recyclable hand film range to consider how it could be made even more environmentally friendly. One such innovation has been the development of Zeroll, a high performance hand stretch film which delivers the same high wrapping standards as regular hand rolls, but which does not have a central product core.

Zeroll’s most obvious feature is the absence of a cardboard core. Applied using special reusable applicators, Zeroll offers excellent stretch, good puncture and tear resistance and impressive cling characteristics. Users who trialled the product during recent comprehensive field tests all reported that it delivered a consistently good wrap, excellent load stability and ease of use.

In addition to its excellent handling and wrapping features, Zeroll helps to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and this in turn saves, time, money and effort for the customer. Each pallet of Zeroll is approximately 83kg lighter without the weight of the cores a factor that should help to make transporting these pallets more fuel-efficient. However users should also find that using Zeroll can help to reduce other costs associated with waste disposal.

For businesses using 1 pallet of hand film per week changing to Zeroll would mean that they are removing approximately four tonnes of cardboard per annum from the waste stream.

In addition to the above mentioned environmental benefits Zeroll is also 100% recyclable and can be reprocessed through industrial film recycling facilities.

Tony Solé, Operations Director at bpi.films, said: “At BPI we continue to review our pallet stretch film range in order to help our customers to manage their commitments under the Packaging Waste Regulations. Zeroll is the latest product in an on-going research and development programme which continues to produce high performance, cost-effective and environmentally friendlier products. Zeroll provides all the qualities people have come to expect from a BPI product but does so with less waste management and cost involved for the customer.”
