| Brithene NHX, a new product from leading polythene manufacturer bpi.films is set to raise the bar in blown film stretchwrapping by reducing unwind noise levels.
As part of the Brithene range of blown, co-extruded films, Brithene NHX has been developed using an alternative polymer blend which eliminates the need for the PIB additive (liquid tackifier) which can occasionally cause a sticky residue to remain on the surface of machine rollers and on users’ hands. This new addition to the bpi portfolio displays the strength and puncture resistance for which the Brithene range is renowned as well as offering additional benefits:
Firstly, the omission of PIB reduces the risk of reel telescoping or spontaneous rising of film from the core in a telescopic fashion. As mentioned above the second benefit for the user is the great reduction in the noise of the film unwinding from the reel even at higher speeds. The introduction of Brithene NHX can therefore lead to a quieter working environment.
Thirdly, the absence of PIB also has the effect of making the film clearer and more transparent with none of the ‘milkiness’ often seen in films containing liquid tackefier.
Bob Barr, European Sales Director at bpi.films said: “PIB is a very common additive in stretch film and is used by blown stretch film manufacturers for its cling properties. In short, Brithene NHX offers the same good level of cling but with none of the ‘downside’ sometimes associated with films containing PIB.
“bpi.films is committed to a programme of continuous research and development to ensure that our customers benefit from the very latest in film technology. The results from the field trials of Brithene NHX have been extremely encouraging as our customers find they can wrap more quietly and more efficiently.”
With the ability to stretch up to 250 percent depending on the machine and the application Brithene NHX is suitable for use mainly on power pre-stretch machines and can currently be produced as a 17 micron, 20 micron or 23 micron outside cling/ inside high slip film.
