To demonstrate its dedication to its customers, bpi.films, the pallet stretch film manufacturer, has announced the launch of a specialist service aimed at providing necessary wrapping advice to customers using pallet stretch wrap machines.

This free service helps businesses to review and perfect pallet wrapping procedures. Experts from bpi.films visit customers across the UK helping to ensure best practice pallet wrapping is being adhered to which in turn helps the customer to save time and reduce their film costs.

Vic Hardman, Area Sales Manager of bpi.films has condensed his programme to provide a top ten tips checklist to the perfect pallet. Vic comments “It is essential that the correct wrap is used and applied in the right way. Doing it wrong can bring untold problems both during wrapping and delivery not to mention the increased time and costs. We’ve had a great response to the service, it is good for our customers as they are able to take a step back and review their wrapping processes with an expert eye on hand to provide advice. ” Vic continues “Customers like this service because they wish to ensure that they are turning out well presented goods to their customers and this is not just for aesthetic purposes. In many cases our customers are supplying the large national retailers and these high profile businesses have set the standard for acceptable pallets. Advice like this helps our customers to ensure they comply with the rigorous demands of the modern supply chain.

10 tips to a perfect pallet….

  1. Choose a grade of film that is compatible with the stretching process.
  2. Choose a thickness that is sensible for the weight of the product being wrapped.
  3. Consider the stability of the load and select a film overlap that will cope best with this.
  4. Remember that additional turns of film around the top of the load will enhance the stability.
  5. Consider the journey length and the maximum number of fork-truck movements the load will undergo to determine the most sensible total number of turns.
  6. Always ensure that there are at least two turns around the load AND the pallet base to prevent the load sliding off under extremes of braking, cornering etc.
  7. Ensure that the film is being applied so that the sticky side is presented to the load. This will prevent loads sticking together.
  8. Because the film has a ‘memory’, check 12 hours after wrapping to ensure that the optimum tension has been used.
  9. When the optimum wrap has been achieved record all the details of stretch, tension, overlap, wrap weight, load-holding force etc. to ensure no changes are made to the wrap in the course of time.
  10. Always use film from a reputable supplier like BPI where quality and consistency can be proved through process, procedure and test records such as the PIFA QA Scheme.
